On The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, former President Barack Obama brushed aside speculation about a supposed government conspiracy involving extraterrestrials. “One of the things you learn as president is that the government is terrible at keeping secrets,” he said, drawing laughter from the audience. Far from fueling conspiracy theories, Obama mocked the very idea of a massive secret kept for decades: “I promise you, if the government had proof of some form of extraterrestrial life, some guy guarding the facility would have already taken a selfie with an alien and sent it to his girlfriend.”

These remarks contrast with his earlier comments on a podcast, where he had said, “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them,” before having to clarify on Instagram. In a context where Donald Trump is promising the imminent release of Pentagon documents on UAPs and the explosive documentary The Age of Disclosure accuses the government of an “80-year global cover-up,” Obama’s intervention reignites the debate on transparency.

Obama Skeptical: No Conspiracy, No Secret

Appearing on Colbert’s show, the former president firmly rejected the notion of a vast government conspiracy hiding evidence of extraterrestrial life. He insisted that if such proof existed, it would have leaked long ago.

There is no secret underground base, unless there’s this enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the president of the United States,” he added with humor. Obama did not, however, rule out the existence of life elsewhere in the universe, noting that “statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there.”

But he tempered that view: the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances of an alien visit remain low, and he saw “no evidence” during his presidency that extraterrestrials had made contact with us.

He even joked about his own potential role in the event of first contact: “First contact, I think I would be a good emissary for the planet. I’ve got some experience at statecraft and diplomacy. I’m friendly. So, I actually think I could do a pretty good job.”

Obama’s Earlier Remarks and the Clarification

These statements come after a viral moment in February 2026 on Brian Tyler Cohen’s podcast. When asked point-blank whether aliens are real, Obama had replied, “They’re real, but I haven’t seen them.”

The remark immediately sparked online speculation. Obama later clarified on Instagram: “Statistically, the universe is so vast that the odds are good there’s life out there. But the distances between solar systems are so great that the chances we’ve been visited by aliens are low, and I saw no evidence during my presidency that extraterrestrials have made contact with us. Really!”

Podcast host Brian Tyler Cohen defended his interview, explaining that he had reached out to Obama’s team for clarification after the backlash, and that the former president’s response confirmed exactly what he had understood at the time.

Trump Reacts and Promises Transparency

The comments did not go unnoticed by President Donald Trump. He called Obama’s remarks a “big mistake,” accusing the former president of having disclosed classified information. “He gave classified information. He’s not supposed to be doing that,” Trump said aboard Air Force One. He then announced on Truth Social that he was ordering the declassification of government documents related to extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), and UFOs.

At a rally in Phoenix, Trump promised that the first releases from a Pentagon UFO study would be made public “very, very soon.” “We found many very interesting documents, I must say,” he told the crowd.

The Documentary “The Age of Disclosure”: An “80-Year Cover-Up” Spotlighted by Rubio and Stratton

In this atmosphere of tension, the documentary The Age of Disclosure, directed by Dan Farah and released at the end of 2025, sheds explosive light on the subject. Filmed over three years, the film features 34 senior U.S. government officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jay Stratton, former director of the government’s UAP Task Force.

Marco Rubio reveals bluntly: “We’ve had repeated instances of something operating in the airspace over restricted nuclear facilities, and it’s not ours.”

Jay Stratton, a former Defense Intelligence Agency official and director of the UAP Task Force, warns: “The first country that cracks the code on this technology will be the leader for years to come.”

Director Dan Farah stresses: “For a very long time, the public, Congress, and even the president have been kept out of the loop on this subject. In the last few years, senior members of Congress and the administration—thanks to whistleblowers—have found out what’s been going on, and they are now in pursuit of the truth for themselves and for the American people.”

Expert Kent Heckenlively, interviewed in the film, poses the central question: “Either this is a complete and total psychological operation by the government on the current population, or there has been a tremendous psychological operation against the public in the past. At some point in history, the government has been lying to us. The question is, is that just in the past, or is that now?”

Conclusion: Between Presidential Skepticism and Promises of Transparency

From Obama’s relaxed humor on Colbert’s set to Trump’s promises of transparency, and the documentary The Age of Disclosure that accuses an “80-year cover-up” while featuring figures like Marco Rubio and Jay Stratton, the question of UFOs and unidentified aerial phenomena remains a topic that fascinates and divides America.

The former president dismisses the idea of a government conspiracy by emphasizing the administration’s chronic inability to keep secrets, while the current occupant of the White House appears ready to open the Pentagon’s files. In a context where Congress passed the Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act in 2023 and the Department of Defense created a dedicated office, transparency on UAPs could well become a major issue in the coming years.

Between presidential skepticism, accusations of manufactured crises, and the drive for disclosure, the mystery remains intact… but Americans are still waiting for answers. The great game of truth about UFOs has only just begun.
